Aan Tafel is a book that was created in collaboration with the Amadeus Lyceum and restaurant Syr under my supervision.

My idea was to make a cookbook in which the cultural encounter between students and refugees is central. Food connects enormously, and is a great glimpse into another culture. In addition, the day is discussed at the table. That is something universal.

The result was a cookbook that linked stories to memories of smell, color and small anecdotes. The war vibrates in the background, but has no main note in this book.

Aan Tafel was for sale at the famous zine store Athenaeum in Amsterdam.

Umlaut was an advertising agency which I started in 2014 with Isa van Weert. Sjors Bazelier and Elene Hulleman joined in 2015.

Umlaut has published two advertising newspapers. In these newspapers, shops and local initiatives were linked to local illustrators. The illustrators made beautiful advertisements for the companies to which they were linked. These drawings were accompanied by interviews with both parties.

Each party received 100 copies, so that everyone advertised for each other at each participating location. It was a great success, but due to circumstances the plug was pulled out of Umlaut.

Umlaut

Pentatone is a Dutch classical music label located in Baarn, Netherlands. The label focuses on production of high-end, 5-channel surround sound recordings. Three former executives of Philips Classics, Giel Bessels, Dirk van Dijk and Job Maarse, established the label in 2001.

I was asked to develop a series for a Prokofiev CD box. For this I have studied neo-suprematism and constructivism. As a result, I adhered to basic geometric shapes.

Via WhatsApp I receive so many photos with strange subtitles. I have decided to take the pearls out of it and turn them into posters.

This is a series that will grow slowly. The first poster you see is based on my brother-in-law who started a fight with a tree root in his backyard. He called the tree root devilish.

The second poster shows a mouse head. That was the first catch of the cat of Thomas van der Vlis (TOSAM printhero)

Tivoli Vredenburg asked me to make a poster for an event with rather dark music. In order to still appeal to a broad audience, I was asked, and that was also the challenge, not to make it too dark and heavy. I looked at typical elements from the alternative scene, and I made it a little less heavy by giving it an ironic twist. The use of colour, composition and the use of colour have made it an attractive whole, which will appeal to a wide audience.
