A family with a new family member on the way had approached me to symbolise this in a painting that could also serve as a birth card, but which would also be a work of art they would give to the baby at birth. In their garden is an apple tree with a speaking character. I drew five apples in it to symbolise and capture the number of family members in the tree that is so special to them. It is painted on a 40 x 60 cm panel with oil pastel.
