In my comic Bed, Bad and Dood I try to take the viewer into the story of a refugee. I believe that a vital society needs new cultures.

To understand the refugee, we must become an actor in the refugee’s narrative. For this project I have spoken with many refugees. I have combined their stories and kneaded them into a realistic knit.

In this story you follow Wijnbrand Axel de Haan. He has to flee the Netherlands due to extreme natural disasters. He gradually loses everything and becomes displaced. Wijnbrand arrives in a non-existent country where they treat him as a number. He gets deeper and deeper into the restraining corridors of bureaucracy.

Bed, Bad en Dood was for sale at the famous zine store Athenaeum in Amsterdam.

This series consists of various screen prints of cowboys. The typical image of the Hollywood cowboy matches the outdated image of the American dream.

The cowboys are often tough men who create an ideal image. The films in which they play often have a huge one-sided vision of what is good and evil. Something that, in my opinion, is an outdated picture of how we should deal with each other. That is why I portray the cowboys in this series as stupid dorks who run behind the facts every time.

This series is still in the making, so more cowboys will appear every time.

Antiz is one of the most recognized European skateboard companies.

I had a lot of freedom for this project. The performance you see is about breaking away from the American and Christian standard and daring to embrace our pre-Christian traditions. It is about tribes that lived in more unity with nature, just like skateboarding adheres to a rebellious culture, the longing for a time when people and nature in unity are rebellious as well. It is strange that it is rebellious, but because it is a domain where it is not so much about money, but especially about happiness, this domain is hated by the coldest monster that exists; the state.

Flood Mixtures (Vloed Mengsels). This piece is about a meeting of various elements after an international catastrophe.

But also; everything that will be found from this time in the future is not or difficult to connect with each other.

Suppose that in the future a city, for example Amsterdam, is found at the bottom of a newly created sea, it may well be that a soldier’s helmet is found in an oven. Or maybe a running shoe in a semi-decayed car.

In the future, people will make a connection between those two objects. They will want to say something about our time. But after an enormous catastrophe, it is only possible that objects get mixed up with each other and are therefore misinterpreted.

I hope to ask the question with this growing series; what is important in our time and what do we want to tell about the future? I also hope that this serie will raise questions about prevailing morals, norms and values,

I am very fascinated with all kinds of different notions of the end times. Sometimes I am hunted by dreams that are sometimes so real that it feels like visions. Besides writing these visions, I try to capture the images to get a grip on them.

Kali Yuga, according to Hindu belief, is the last cycle in which our civilization finds itself. I am perplexed that it sometimes seems as if the time in which we now live is written in old texts.

Everything in the world is happening now.

Ramon a.k.a. Edgar Nevermoo and I are both huge fans of Kurt Vonnegut. In particular the book Sirens of Titan. Ramon, together with Carlien, is the owner of Kapitaal in Utrecht. That is a screen printing workshop with a very open atmosphere. I come here regularly and then talk to Ramon about this book, among other things.

We came up with the idea to create a magazine dedicated to the book Sirens of Titan. It is written very visual, which makes it interesting for us to make a visual translation. The idea of ​​this project is mainly to have fun explaining a book. This project is in full swing. Keep an eye on this project to follow updates.

Kapitaal and Remco de Groot created this t-shirt in collaboration with me and Pizza Knife. The band played live while I drew a huge hyena in the background. Afterwards we screen printed the hyena on a t-shirt.

Dubieus Hart (Dubious Heart) is a series about different forms of power, its subversion and personal associations that arise from my thoughts. Themes such as holidays, authority, sports and hunting form a unity in these drawings and, in my opinion, show the sometimes sick habits of our time.

The series was shown in Rotterdam in the mini gallery Raam Maar in the first week of September 2020. Dubieus Hart was released as a mini zine.

The series is about my daily experiences that I had during the period that I had sold my soul to the clock and became a wage slave.

All the images I made during that time are metaphors that arose from experiences on the train, on the way to the office and the motivation you can feel in the morning. That motivation was often gone halfway through the day, due to poor ventilation in the office. I sometimes felt like a flower that could grow high on the mountain, but there was always the threat of a bomb attack on the horizon.

Now I have left all that behind and the images represent personal metaphors of inner growth.

With my pseudonym Flip Zonneheuvel, I am opening up a new world for myself. The character I have drawn here is called Lou and is Flip’s father. This drawing is based on the last photo ever taken of Lou. That was in Nepal, just before he went into the mountains. Unfortunately, he got lost and was never to be found again. At least, that’s what the family thinks.
